Registered Psychotherapist (RP), Registered Art Psychotherapist (UK), EMDR Therapist, Clinical Supervisor
A Clinical Supervisor and Psychotherapist dedicated to transforming trauma, grief, and neurodivergent experiences through the integration of EMDR and Art Therapy.
About My Practice
My philosophy of practice is to provide a nonjudgmental, safe, and private environment where clients can cultivate creativity, strength, and resilience. I believe that expressing emotions through art offers a unique pathway to healing, allowing colors, patterns, and layouts to become the storytellers of our inner lives.
As a Registered Psychotherapist (Ontario), Registered Art Psychotherapist (UK), and Clinical Supervisor, I provide a deeply integrative approach to mental health. I hold professional membership with the Canadian Art Therapy Association and am a certified Grief Recovery Method® Specialist.
My professional background spans Indigenous communities, detention centers, and hospital units. Beyond my clinical work with children, youth, and seniors, I serve as a Clinical Supervisor, mentoring fellow therapists in the integration of expressive modalities and trauma-informed care.
I believe that true healing requires reaching the parts of us that words alone cannot always access. To support this, I specialize in the integration of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with Art Therapy. This combined approach is particularly effective for those who feel "stuck" in their narrative or find it difficult to put their trauma into words.
By weaving together a variety of evidence-based modalities within the EMDR protocol, I provide a holistic pathway to recovery:
Deep Trauma Processing & Parts Work: I utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS), Inner Child work, and Sand tray to help clients visualize, externalize, and communicate with different aspects of the self. This allows complex emotions and past wounds to be safely externalized and reprocessed.
Mindfulness & Regulation: To ensure a grounded experience during deep trauma work, I integrate Meditation, Self-Compassion, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills. These tools build the emotional stability and resilience necessary for the transformation of "voiceless" scars into stories of strength.
I specialize in supporting Neurodivergent individuals and Immigrant populations navigating:
Trauma & Loss: PTSD, Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA), and Grief.
Recovery: Addiction, Substance Abuse, and Coping Skills.
Emotional Health: Anxiety, Depression, Self-Esteem, and Family Conflict.
“I have long appreciated the value of art psychotherapy. Particularly when grounded in psychodynamic theory and practice, it offers unique possibilities of growth promotion, healing and restoration of wholeness. Consequently, I am very happy to be able to know ChrisB Liu and her work well. Her training and background experience are excellent and when combined with her creativity, compassion and therapeutic skill, result in her being someone who I can recommend without hesitation or reservation.”
